In the environmental field we have interesting times ahead politically and the possibility that something more sensible may emerge.
Meantime I suggest ignoring the “pollys” and concentrating on ways to reduce your own emissions because that will also save costs in your business.
The fundamental problem with the ETS/CPRS is that it is all about buying and selling licences to pollute. And the largest polluters have their permits discounted.
What we really need to do is waste less. Of course I am in favour of subsidising impoverished people in the Amazon, Indonesia and Papua to help them retain their forests, paying to encourage farmers to store carbon in soil and paying business and home owners (including landlords) to make buildings more energy efficient.
I am not in favour of businesses simply paying to pollute by buying carbon credits that may or may not be fully effective.
I am certainly in favour of helping business to identify areas where they can save money and reduce their emissions. This is what I have been helping clients with for many years.
