Will Your Business Survive?

So the G8 nations have set a big target for 40 years time.  With the basic rules of goal setting ignored, it looks more like a wing and a prayer but the consequence of this plus the 2 degree maximum temperature rise  promised will put real pressure on us all.

In Australia, Kevin Rudd has said that we will get moving urgently because all our futures depend on it.

And he told us that energy management in homes and offices is the low hanging fruit so if you are not taking proactive and practical steps to reduce your carbon footprint, now is the time.  And don’t just think that calling in a carbon auditor to sell you offsets is going green.  That is just paying to pollute and it will continue to become more expensive and with energy costs rising this will be unsustainable.   It is only sensible for the impossible extras you can’t cut.

Plus if you are in any form of supply chain, your customers will require you to be able to account for your carbon. The reality is that businesses that do not go green may well not be in business in five years time.

30% of greenhouse emissions come from offices and this includes micro businesses working from home.  Whatever your business, the pressure will be on you to reduce your carbon footprint and become a green business with good energy management.

The most effective way for your business to achieve environmental sustainability is to implement an ISO 14001 based environmental management system or EMS.  I find that certifying my own integrated ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 is helpful as the auditor walking in helps me meet deadlines but your business will get real benefits simply by having a well implemented, simple and low paper management system whether it is certified or not.  And, like my clients, I found the exercise of systematically identifying my environmental risks and managing them has saved both money and emissions beyond what I was already doing.

You can choose between two options for implementing ISO 14001 and keeping it simple.

The best outcomes for most businesses are from the coached ISO 14001 course and I will be enrolling people in the week beginning July 22nd to start one week later.  And yes I will accept a monthly payment plan to make it easier for your cash flow.

When you join the group you will get a small weekly download and also audio files so that you can listen when you are commuting or just sitting at the end of the day.  Clients tell me this really works well for them because they can quickly refer to the written materials to check on details instead of being expected to find the time to sit and read training materials at the end of a long day.  And I make the training materials easy and the system low on paper and red tape because if it is not simple it won’t work.

The only set time commitment is a weekly teleconference and this is recorded for you so that you do not need to take notes.  You can just concentrate on interacting and asking questions.  And if you have to miss a session you still get the recording.  You also have email access to me at all times and I do review what you are doing and ask you to fax or email some info at times to help this.  This form of consultancy really works well.  And it you have or want ISO 9001 as well I really simplify integrating them so phone and ask how I can help you on 1300 88 3646 Aust or 618 8364 5742 international call.

This works regardless of where you live.  I do my very best to sort the call times to suit the people in each group and calls are usually on Tuesday or Wednesday Australian time.  Tuesday morning in Australia is Monday evening in the USA.  I work on Adelaide time because it is top of the list on Timeanddate.com so easy to work out.

I totally realise that some people are cash strapped and because I do want to make this easy for you, I also offer you an ISO 14001 Do-It-Yourself program and as a special G8 gesture I have reduced the price to US$415 .  If this is your choice and you find a little extra help is needed, I do offer one on one coaching for a small extra or if you do decide to upgrade to the coached course I will discount what you have already paid for the DIY training package.  You will get a book and 8CD pack so that you can just pop your CD into the player and yes, the mp3 files are also there along with templates and other helpful training files and of course the latest manual version.  You can even choose to save even more with an all digital download version for US$37.

The first section was from news reports.
The information about ISO 14001 comes from my own experience of working with large numbers of clients, mainly from a variety of small to medium businesses over the past eleven years. And also from implementation in my own businesses.

I am a marine biologist originally and I became involved in business about 20 years ago in a family owned computer business. I ended up managing that business and implementing quality assurance and continuing my environmental consulting on the side. That business has a $5million turnover and 17 staff before we decided that it was time to move on.

When ISO 14001 was released in 1996, I was immediately interested because it combined my two passions – the need to manage business with environmental sustainability and the very real benefits ISO systems can bring to a business when they are implemented simply with a low paper approach. I started my own business as an ISO consultant and trainer. I am also a qualified auditor which adds depth to my understanding of these systems.

My own business has both ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 and I work with clients both on and offline and have developed my ISO consultancy as a series of modules. Go to http://www.enviro-action.com for more information
