The pressure is now on us all
The G8 resolutions on climate change do put the pressure on all industrialised nations to pull their weight. Australia must cut its greenhouse emissions by at least 25 per cent by 2020, and by 80 per cent by 2050 say the climate experts.
A new report from the Australian National University says that “The climate system appears to be changing faster than earlier thought likely”. It went on to say that the critical issues for Australia included a possible sea level rise of 80cm by 2100, more droughts, a general drying trend, and more heatwaves, floods and bushfires plus the Great Barrier Reef could suffer due to an increasingly acidic and warm ocean.
The time has come for all Australians to reduce their carbon footprint by careful planning and good energy management. We need environmental sustainability with green businesses leading the way. And green business is surprisingly easy and you should reduce your carbon footprint instead of buying offsets which is simply paying to continue polluting.
