Change focus from hot air to wind

One way to have environmental sustainability and good energy management is by using renewable energy like wind power and a new report shows no technical problems preventing significant amount of wind energy supplying the British National Grid.  Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace, RSPB and WWF, who commissioned the report, are calling on the UK Government get funding and incentives in place to attract investment in wind power and priority access to the energy market and the electricity grid.

According to the report, wind power does not need large amounts of extra conventional – fossil, nuclear or gas – energy backup to stop the lights going out, and while the instant loss of a large conventional power station is a real risk, it is extremely unlikely that the same amount of wind will disappear instantaneously.

The report also states that the National Grid is more than able to manage the variable input created by wind power, as it is already designed to manage fluctuations in demand and supply, and that there are no significant costs associated with managing variability –

If Britain meets its renewable energy targets with 32 per cent of electricity from wind by 2020, it will only add £2 to every £100 spent by consumers.

The UK are in a fortunate position act on their greenhouse emissions because apparently many of their old coal and nuclear plants are due to retire over the next 10 years.

We all need both a rapid change to renewable energy and a better energy management in all nations of the world and especially in the industrialised ones.
