Alice Springs Solar City gets energy award
Alice Solar City won the national Energy Innovation Award in the Keep Australia Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards, which recognises sustainable energy management within communities with combined innovative energy conservation and initiatives at the private, industrial and municipal levels. Brian Elmer, GM of Alice Solar City, said residents deserved the award for “embracing changes in how they think about and use energy”. Since the launch of the project in March they have had over 350 households undertake a residential energy survey, and over $850,000 worth of financial incentive vouchers issued to help residents make energy saving changes in their homes and businesses. Alice Solar City was recognised for its tailored approach of saving energy, its unique financial incentives system and the use of new energy technology for large scale projects, such as a recently announced photovoltaic system on the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
