Flippant reactions to Global Warming
The next sentence is the beginning of an email I received today.
“Good Morning- Happy Wednesday. It is going to be almost 90 degrees in New York today. Love this Global Warming!”
I was appalled! It rates with a comment I had from a very prominent internet marketing expert. “I am not interested in green issues, but I wrote you a song”. I hope he feels comfortable saying that to his kids in 20 years.
Without wanting to sound alarmist the latest predictions are that all the arctic ice will be gone in 23 years. 20% is gone already and as there is less shiny white ice to reflect the sun, the remaining dark sea absorbs heat. I find this very alarming. All the predictions so far have actually been conservative and have been reached sooner than predicted.
I worry for the children. Climate change is a very real issue and we MUST take it seriously.

Living in the now - being in the big game - having the best of the best. Why do we all become slaves to society? So we can have big pay checks! And why do most of us want those…it isn’t typical to find people being overly conservative with their huge pay checks…we like to have them, because American’s want to get whatever they want, and whenever they want it. We’re not a breed of social slaves that concern ourselves too much with tomorrow. All most of care about is that tomorrow we can get our famed Starbucks latte`, and the best quality gasoline for our oh so unnecessary and overly expensive Mercedez or BMW. We care that when WE WANT to go on a vacation to Nepal, we can. But do we really tend to concern ourselves with the question ” is all this fun I’m having going to negatively impact other people.” more often than not, no one cares. So long as they are having fun. I am in so much support of what you are doing, and I know there are so many people that are really listening and really taking concern, but…I feel like big companies - all types - need to play into the American heart. The “cool”, the “in”…and I believe that you guys are helping to make green peace “in” and “cool”. But we need to pressure our big companies and well established leaders to try to get into the average American mind and make knowing the facts and living with new standards the new thing to do. If not, I think our nation will continue to do what they have always done…what has always been ‘cool’ in their lifetime. Buy, buy, buy - consume and eat the best and do whatever they want without remorse, because theyre having fun. It’s hard to break trends, and habits - but I fear that if advertising companies and large manufacturing companies dont make green peace the new thing, then people will just disregard it . Turn it into a politically incorrect debate about “who cares” and the rest of us will be trying to pick up the slack and change the world one person at a time. Donny Deutsch and other big wigs - I’m so happy they’ve taken an interest, and now that that plateau has been reached, and now that there are so many people in office that actually give a damn and now that your strengths and information are peaking, I think it’s time to take on Big Fishies. Push hard, and harder and harder. I think the big question to ask these people is “If you’re a so called ‘American Company,’ and operating in a nation where the possibilities are endless, then why ,with the fact based information you have been handed on a silver platter, haven’t you already started to make changes to better the future of Americans, their children and future generations to come?” Pushing hard is something that can be done here, and I don’t understand why more people aren’t calling these big named companies out. I have a not for profit that is helping with the world hunger issue, and educating the youth of America about global warming and climate change - and it seems to me that the youth is more concerned than the big guys, with the money and with the opportunities to help sculpt our nation into a nation of concerned critics. Anyway…that’s my rant for the day. I just can’t believe that there has been so little done is so long. We have been fighting this problem for almost four years. Four years of educated Americans and though we have made stride, I am in disbelief about how many big companies have taken initiative. We are American’s, and we have so many choices and possibilities, It’s just alarming. We’re more focused, as a nation, to bring happiness into our life today, rather than concerning ourselves with the future of our nation. What happened? -Jamie, 21, Marietta, Ga.

Thanks for the comment Jamie. Yes the advertisers do need to take a lead. It is great to see some of the film stars getting on board.
I was not sure where the 4 years came from - I have known about global warming for nearly 30 years but the science was not quite so certain then.
Now we have reached a stage where we MUST take action because the longer we delay, the worse the problem becomes. We are already past the point of no impact and we need to slow this fast. We need a lot more people like you pressuring the regulators and the advertisers. Advertisers respond very rapidly to public opinion as well as shaping it.
